In the heart of <\/span>Salt River, Cape Town<\/span><\/strong>, a neighborhood shaped by industry and migration, this project sought to reimagine <\/span>social housing not as a finished product, but as an evolving infrastructure<\/b><\/span><\/span>\u2014a framework for collective construction, autonomy, and adaptation. Inspired by <\/span>Henri Lefebvre\u2019s writings on space and the state<\/b><\/span><\/span>, the design proposes a system where <\/span>residents are not mere occupants but active agents in shaping their own homes<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/b><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Situated next to the <\/b><\/span>railway lines and station<\/b><\/span><\/span>, the intervention connects housing directly to Cape Town\u2019s transport system. But rather than a static housing block, it proposes a <\/b><\/span>self-constructing architectural machine<\/b><\/span><\/span>\u2014an infrastructural spine embedded within a modular framework that grows through collective labor and need. This <\/span>crane-like megastructure<\/b><\/span><\/span>, both symbolic and functional, is not just a provider of shelter but an <\/b><\/span>enabler of self-determinati<\/b>on<\/strong><\/span><\/span>, granting people the tools, resources, and space to construct their own environments. <\/span><\/div><\/div><\/div>
