Reimagining Sa Tanca: From Abandonment to Collective Possibility

In the heart of Sant Lluís, the unfinished structure of Sa Tanca still stands, an abandoned shopping center — a place marked by silence, yet full of untapped potential.

As part of an exercise in citizen participation and collective reflection, an open meeting was held with residents of Sant Lluís to imagine the future of the Sa Tanca building — currently unused, yet with great potential as a public space.

The session began with a visual and historical journey through the origins of collective spaces in the Mediterranean (agoras, bazaars, galleries, shopping centers), eventually focusing on the specific case of Sa Tanca. The current condition of the building was presented through drone footage, interior photographs, and architectural drawings.

From there, a discussion was opened with attendees around possible uses, values, and aspirations for the space.

An open survey was also shared to continue gathering ideas in an accessible and participatory way.

The session concluded with a conceptual video proposal for the transformation of the building, envisioning green areas, sociocultural uses, and a renewed relationship between the space and the town.

The aim of the gathering was not to close a project, but to activate a shared vision and begin imagining, together, a future where Sa Tanca can become a meaningful, living, and community-oriented place.

A possibility within the town, integrating new public and green spaces. Note the new perforations to the lower ground.
